Krav Maga self-defense training will change your body and your lifestyle for the better. That’s exactly the sort of thing that people are looking for, or intending, when they make New Year’s resolutions. They want to make changes. Changes that are empowering.
Empowerment comes from taking action. Much of the stress, worry, doubt, and self-deprecation that can bring people down comes from the lack of action. It’s really the feeling of not having any sort of control. At the end of each year and the start of each new year, there is as much reflection on what we’ve done wrong and how little control we have as there is optimism about what we can change and make better.
On the surface, it might not seem like Krav Maga self-defense classes, Krav Maga self-defense training, or training to learn to fight at Krav Maga Worldwide can be a solution or a difference maker for a new year. It really can be, though.
Krav Maga Worldwide has a mission.
Krav Maga Worldwide’s mission as a company is to empower every person with real skills to be safer and stronger so they may walk in peace. It’s a mission that started with Krav Maga’s creator, Imi Lichtenfeld and continued with our Chief Instructor, Darren Levine.
Krav Maga Worldwide self-defense classes, and the programs at our training centers that were developed arounds Krav Maga self-defense, empower people in many different ways. In this blog we are going to look at three specific ways that Krav Maga will empower you if you make self-defense training and self-defense classes a part of your plan to take action for yourself in 2024.
Goals.
Self-defense classes and self-defense training at Krav Maga Worldwide certified training centers will give you the opportunity to set, pursue, and achieve goals for yourself. Simply saying, “I want this” or “I want that” is a statement that is often followed by a “but, I can’t” or “but, it’s impossible”.
We get it. Achieving positive change is difficult. However, if you’re just saying you want something or that you want some kind of change without knowledge regarding the steps it takes to get there, you’re going to make it so you “can’t” achieve that change and you’ll continue to believe “it’s impossible”.
Krav Maga Worldwide has a roadmap for you.
Krav Maga is a self-defense system that provides a roadmap for progress by way of the Krav Maga belt-system. Martial arts belts in general can be seen as something mysterious or esoteric. They’re not. Belts are a roadmap for students. They are a means of understanding how to achieve results.
The vast majority of high-level belt holders in any martial art or self-defense system will tell you that belts don’t really matter. That’s sort of a 50% true and 50% false statement. It’s true because simply having the belt doesn’t matter. What matters is all of the time and effort that goes into achieving it. It’s false because without the belt-system and structure, beginning students wouldn’t understand the importance of investing time and effort into training.
Not all students are motivated to achieve a high belt level in Krav Maga. Many students simply want to feel safer, or lose weight, or get in better shape, or make it to 3 classes a week. That’s awesome. Goals should definitely be personal. That’s what makes them important. The Krav Maga belt system can still be a structure and a means of support for achieving those goals.
Krav Maga self-defense training is an integrated system that progressively builds skills as students progress through Krav Maga levels. What ends up happening more frequently than not is that students eventually want to increase their level of skills. They want to learn more. In that way the next Krav Maga level becomes their goal by default. Not to mention that, along the way, they will be feeling safer, losing weight, getting in better shape, and making it to those 3 classes (or more) a week.
The importance of goal setting.
Self-defense classes at Krav Maga Worldwide will empower you by giving you the challenge and opportunity to set goals for yourself. Having a goal is really the figurative first step in taking any sort of positive action. The literal first step is signing up to take a class and coming to train. Do that and you’ll have already achieved a goal and started making positive change for yourself.
Physical and mental skills.
Everyone gets scared about their own personal safety. Everyone. Even high-level belt holders in Krav Maga and other martial arts. The only way to mitigate that fear and to control it somewhat is to start training to learn how to defend yourself.
Krav Maga, as a system, was designed specifically for people who had no experience in hand-to-hand combat. Not only that, but it was designed to make those people proficient in hand-to-hand combat in a very short period of time.
Krav Maga self-defense classes and Krav Maga self-defense training will absolutely, positively, teach you new skills. It will teach you things that you never even thought you might need to know. These skills are both physical and mental.
Physically, you will learn concrete fundamentals for effective self-defense. Striking techniques like punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. You’ll also learn how to defend yourself against attacks like chokes, bearhugs, headlocks, throws, pins, and against striking techniques. In higher Krav Maga levels you’ll learn how to defend against attackers armed with handguns, long guns, knives, blunt objects, and improvised weapons.
Mentality is important.
Mentally, you will be learning a new way to look at your surroundings. We call this “situational awareness”. It’s really the ability to understand where dangerous situations can arise from and how to avoid them. Through consistent training you will also be learning a new way to discipline yourself. To make time in your schedule for classes, as well as for recovery, and to account for things like nutrition, strength training, and endurance training.
Remember, our mission is to empower people to be safer AND stronger. It’s because of that vision that most of our certified training centers offer complimentary fitness, strength and conditioning, and mobility training programs. We want to build self-defense skills in our students and we want them to have strong bodies capable that are as capable as possible of fighting back in self-defense.
Get involved and get more.
Getting involved in programs like Strength and Conditioning and Mobility will build an entirely different set of skills as they build and change your body. Krav Maga Worldwide certified training centers offer a synergistic approach to self-defense training that you just won’t find anywhere else.
You’ll be empowered with skills and you develop new abilities through Krav Maga self-defense training.
Results.
You’ll also be empowered by the results you see from training. It’s a fact that your body is going to change through Krav Maga self-defense classes. Self-defense training is a form of resistance training. It forces your whole body to work in ways that, unless you’ve done it before, is going to be completely new.
Punching, kicking, throwing elbows, defending chokes and headlocks, even holding equipment for your training partners is going to exhaust you. It’s going to force your body to change and adapt. You are going to get stronger, get leaner, develop explosive power, and even improve your body’s dynamic flexibility.
Motivation and consistency.
Results and goals are, in a sense, tied together. If you have a goal in mind, and you’re taking action to achieve that goal, you are going to want to see results. Krav Maga, as a system, was designed to get a specific result. It was designed to teach people self-defense efficiently. Along the way, it makes people stronger and transforms their body.
Results are often the biggest and best form of motivation. Seeing change in your body, mastering a technique, or achieving a new Krav Maga belt level will motivate you and help you see the path toward new goals and bigger accomplishments. It’s a positive cycle that starts when you start training.
Empowerment starts when you do.
